Because there is no restart required, this makes changing versions for testing quick and easy! The other option is from the URLs tab, select the URL that you want to configure from the list on the left, then select the correct version of the app on the right.Īfter configuring things with either of these methods, your fmp URLs should open in the correct version of FileMaker Pro Advanced right away. Then just click “Set As Default” to lock in your selections. One option is from the Apps tab, select the app from the list on the left (make sure that the version number and icon shown on the right are correct), and check the options that for URLs and file extensions that you want. There are 2 ways to go about associating the fmp URL scheme with the correct version of the app. If this is the case, you may need to open the Security & Privacy preferences and click to allow installation. Depending on your security settings, you may get an error about an untrusted developer. The system should automatically copy it to /Library/PreferencePanes or /Library/PreferencePanes to install it for all users, and launch System Preferences. To install RCDefaultApp.prefPane just double click on it. Note: It appears that RCDefaultApp has not been updated since 2009, but it still works with macOS High Sierra in our testing. RCDefaultApp 2.1 is a macOS Preference Pane that gives a graphical interface to controlling these settings. Luckily, the nice folks at Rubicode have made us a handy Preference Pane utility for just this purpose. I’m sure it’s in some plist down in the bowels of macOS, but I don’t care to go spelunking there. You may ask yourself, “ How did I get here?” …and you might not even be listening to the Talking Heads.īut then you may ask yourself, “How do I set it to open the right version?” You would think that there is just a preference setting in FileMaker or macOS for this. If you do have multiple versions of FIleMaker Pro installed on your computer, you may notice that fmp URLs (links that start with fmp://… that open a FileMaker Pro custom app, and optionally perform a script) do not open in the version that you are expecting. If you are a developer, you may need to support multiple versions for different clients, for example. Additionally, I guess it was a good way to teach myself Swift. If you don’t need multiple versions of FileMaker installed on your computer, we recommend uninstalling the old version(s) when you install a new new major version. But there maybe reasons to have more than one version installed. This Preference pane is chiefly intended to be a modern replacement for the amazing RCDefaultApp developed way back when by Carl Lindberg, which stopped working in 10.12 due to deprecation of ObjC Garbage collection. Most users will only have a need for one version of FileMaker Pro Advanced installed on their computer at any one time. I have a vague memory of the possibility of making these sorts of changes either via the Terminal or via editing a system file, but it's been years since I looked into such things.A new version of FileMaker Pro Advanced was recently released. ![]() However – I still have a copy in my software archive. What version of macOS are you running? It may or may not run the pref-pane, and for that matter you probably can't find it anywhere as it's no longer supported. I can change that in the preference panel, and it does work here on Mojave. Long Version : nvALT by David Halter and Brett Terpstra, based on NV 2.0 β5 Copyright © 2010 Zachary Schneirov, All Rights Reserved.īundle Identifier : Īs you can see nvALT registers both URL-schemes. The two apps have different Bundle-IDs, but they share the same creator code: Long Version : 2.0 β5, Copyright © 2011 Zachary Schneirov, All Rights Reserved.īundle Identifier : ![]() ![]() Is there a way I can fix the URL (maybe through the OS?) so that it opens the correct app?Ĭan KM be triggered by the nv:// URL and then use the URL data to open a search in the correct app? However, when I execute a URL starting with nv:// it opens NValt instead of Notational Velocity. I copy the URL of individual notes and paste them into my todo list. (Important to note, NValt is a branch of Notational Velocity.) I keep the product development notes in Notational Velocity and the rest in Nvalt. I maintain two note repositories: one for product development and another for general scratch pad-type notes. ![]() This fixed things perfectly - now my nv:// urls open Notational Velocity instead of nValt. There's an old Preference Pane called RCDefaultApp that gives a whole lot of control over default apps.
